: Delft clay casting is a refined form of sand casting. Sand casting has been used for centuries to produce three-dimensional forms, and its use continues to this day in industrial applications. Because Delft clay is so much finer than sand, the process yields castings with smooth surfaces and is capable of providing sharp highly detailed results in all metals. There is the added benefit of little finishing work, plus the clay is reusable. If you are looking for a low cost, less resource intensive alternative to lost wax casting this is the class for you. Students should bring objects that they wish to cast (coins, buttons, trinkets, small carvings, etc.) made from wood, plastic, hard wax, metal, resin, or similar materials to use as models plus silver scrap or casting grain (which will also be available for purchase). Class size is limited to 4 students, & this class fills fast, so sign up early. This is a PROCESS class. One session, 3 hours. $60 plus supplies (dependent on choice of metals – either bronze or sterling) Wednesday May 17, 6-9 p.m.
